Bob
McCafferty grew up locally, just 10 miles south of Slippery
Rock. As a boy, his folks taught him the necessity of helping
others. The McCaffertys volunteered whenever called; cleaning
up after the Johnstown flood of '76 and the East Brady flood
of '81, delivering "Meals on Wheels", and rebuilding homes
each summer at the Appalachian Work Camps.
Bob
is a graduate of Butler High school and of the Indiana University
of Pennsylvania (IUP) where he earned a BS in Environmental
Geosciences with Minors in Biology and Geography.
While
at IUP, he was active in Environmentally Conscious Organization
(ECO) Club and networked with the Indiana High School environmental
club. Through their volunteer efforts, these groups initiated
recycling in Indiana Borough. By the time Bob left Indiana,
PA, the Borough had constructed it's own recycling center
that employed seven full-time people.
At
this point Bob became an archeologist and traveled up and
down the east coast excavating prehistoric and historic
sites. This profession allowed for a lot of time backpacking
with his faithful companion Koda in many eastern states.
In
the spring of 1998, Bob and Jodi fell in love with the old
storefront and immediately started renovating. It was the
old "Uber and Son" furniture store and funeral home. (Beware
the restrooms for they were once used for another purpose!)
During the renovations, Bob would direct a team of archeologists
during the week - anywhere from Gettysburg to Delaware -
and then return on weekends to join Jodi, his Dad, and his
friends Tom and Todd to continue restoring the structure.
Bob
recently retired from archeology to focus entirely on the
opening of the North Country Brewing Co. |
